Jeffrey Davis received his B.S. degree in Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his PhD degree in Physics from Cornell University. He has been a Professor of Physics at San Diego State University since 1977. He is the director of the Electro-optics Program. His research interests include spatial light modulators, programmable diffractive optical elements and holograms, image processing, and optical pattern recognition.

Currently he has over 155 publications and about 2/3 of these have BS or MS student co-authors. He is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America and a Fellow of SPIE. He was recently recognized as one of the 50 most prolific authors in Applied Optics as part of their 50th year anniversary celebration (http://www.opticsinfobase.org/ao/journal/ao/anniversary/50mostpublished.cfm).
